Chris Stewart

The original drummer who went to Charterhouse, he left in May 1968 after he had played on the tracks on the first Genesis single.

John Silver

Played drums on the first album, From Genesis To Revelation, and left to pursue his education in June 1968. He later became a producer for Granada TV in the UK. A track called Silver Song was written about his departure from the group.

John Mayhew

Drummer for Trespass sessions. Left in July 1970 and became a gardener. A farly recent magazine article about him made the point that he is "the man who could have been Phil Collins", and also revealed that he is now quite poor and lives with his mum. He was not too pleased about the level of success Genesis and Phil Collins have achieved since his departure!

Richard MacPhail

Most notable appearance on the album Genesis Live. There is a picture of Richard on this album and it says "This album is dedicated to Richard Macphail who left April, 1973." He is not dead! He recently reappeared as backing vocalist on "Digging In The Dirt" from Peter Gabriel's Us album. He was originally in The Anon with Mike Rutherford back at Charterhouse, and was a friend of the band and sound technician until 1973, when he "left" to pursue other things. He was tour manager of Peter Gabriel's 1978 World Tour according to Gallo's book.

Mick Barnard

A guitarist with the band "Farm", he briefly joined Genesis to play guitar after Ant Phillips left in 1970, but he didn't work out and soon departed. According to an interview in 1982, Tony Banks says Mick wrote the guitar parts for the Musical Box, which contradicts other accounts that say Ant wrote it - he never officially contributed any songwriting and wasn't credited on any albums.

Alphonso Johnson

Approached to play the guitar parts on tour after Hackett left, but he was mainly a bassist and didn't work out. He introduced the band to Daryl Stuermer and later played bass on Phil's solo albums.

Bill Bruford

From King Crimson and Yes. Played drums for a few months on the 1976 World Tour. Apparently Bruford was explicitly signed as a temporary replacement, he had no desire to stay with Genesis long term, and the band at that time wasn't looking for a new full-time drummer. Both parties were (by all accounts) quite satisfied with the arrangement. According to Bowler/Dray's book he also appeared briefly on the US leg of the Three Sides Live tour in 1982.

David Thomas

Friend of the band in the early days, pre-1970. Was in Peter Gabriel's first band "The Spoken Word", and shared a flat with Peter and Tony around the time of From Genesis To Revelation, on which he sings "back-up vocals".
