Paul Carrack has done loads of stuff apart from the Mechanics. For further information please see the Paul Carrack Discography.
Joined Mike & The Mechanics in 1985 as keyboardist. No idea of other projects he has been involved in. He made an appearance with Phil Collins on Top Of The Pops for a playback of "Both Sides Of The Story" in 1993, which was probably because Phil wasn't prepared to fly his band over to the UK for one performance (and of course they're both signed to Virgin Records).
Session drummer, joined Mike & The Mechanics in 1985. Many appearances and production credits. Also writes incidental music for television, including a theme for a British sport programme featuring Paul Young (also Mike & The Mechanics) on vocals which was released as a single in 1991 ("World In Union").
No, not *that* Paul Young! Namesake of the Paul Young who had hits in the early Eighties including "Wherever I Lay My Hat" (and also supported Genesis on the 1987 UK tour). This particular Paul used to be in a band called Sad Cafe before joining Mike & The Mechanics in 1985.

Vlieger, vlieger@vuse.vanderbilt.edu Last update: Februari 1st, 1994 --------------------------------------------------------------------------- P A U L C A R R A C K D I S C O G R A P H Y --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Paul Carrack, singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, Sheffield Wednesday supporter and at various times a member of/or contributor to Ace, Squeeze, The Frankie Miller Band, Roxy Music, Mike & The Mechanics, The Undertones, Madness, The Smiths, John Hiat, The Pretenders, Nick Lowe & His Cowboy Outfit, to name but most of them. The Paul Carrack story begins in 1970 with Sheffield band Warm Dust, who recorded three albums of what could loosely be described as progressive soul. In 1972 the band split, with Paul going out to form Ace, who over the next five years moved from the London pub-circiut to international succes, with three albums, the world wide hit How Long (a Carrack composition), and a lengthy coast-to-coats U.S. tour supporting Yes. However, by 1977 the band drifted apart, and Paul joined the Frankie Miller Band for a two album spell before becoming a member of Roxy Music in September 1978. During the next two years Paul toured the U.K. and Europe and played on thier huge selling Manifesto and Flesh And Blood albums. In the summer of 1980 Paul made his first solo album Nightbird, toured to promote it, and ended up joining Deptford's finest - Squeeze. With Squeeze for just under a year, he managed to tour America twice, the U.K. once, play on East Side Story and sang lead vocal on the hit Tempted. In late 1981 Paul Worked on the Carlene Carter Blue Nun album and for the next three years he and Nick Lowe took turns fronting the band kwown variously as The Chaps, Noise To Go and The Cowboy Outfit; featured along Nick and Paul were Martin Belmont, James Eller and Bobby Irwin. During this fruitful period they recorded Paul's second solo album Suburban Voodoo with the U.S. hit I Need You, and the Nick Lowe albums Nick The Knife (1982), The Abominable Showman (1983), Nick Lowe And His Cowboy Outfit (1984), and The Rose Of England (1985). In the summer of 1985 Paul joined Mike Rutherford's Mike & The Mechanics, who soon achieved international fame with Silent Running on which Paul sang lead vocal; they toured extensively until late 1986. With Mike and the Mechanics taking a break, Paul resumed his solo career, recording his third album One Good Reason, containg two U.S. hits - Don't Shed A Tear and the title track. In 1987 Paul also cooperated on Roger Waters' Radio KAOS, in particular, he sang part of the lead vocals in The Powers That Be, and toured the album with Waters playing keyboards and singing lead vocals on the Floyd classic Money. Mike & The Mechanics resumed in late 1988, recorded their second album, The Living Years, and had a world wide hit with the title track (including a U.S. number 1) - The Living Years again being sung by Paul. As before when The Mechanics resumed other interests, Paul began recording his fourth album Groove Approved which was released in late 1989. In July 1990 Paul cooperated in the live performance of Roger Waters' The Wall in Berlin by singing Hey You. During this time Mike & The Mechanics got back together and recorded their third album Word Of Mouth (1991) which included four Paul Carrack co-writes. Mike & The Mechanics (Mike Rutherford, Paul Young and Paul Carrack) also donated a performance of Ain't That Peculiar with Paul Shaffer and The World's Most Dangerous Band (from Late Night with David Letterman show) to the Nobody's Child - Romanian Angel Appeal album (1990). In 1993 Paul joined oddly named Spin 1ne 2wo also featuring Rupert Hine, Tony Levin and Steve Ferrone who released an self-titled album consisting of covers of classic rock songs like All along the Watchtower and White Room. Also in 1993, Paul temporarily rejoins Squeeze for the album Some Fantastic Place, and can be heard in duet with Beth Nielsen Chapman on her album You Hold The Key. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Warm Dust - And It Came To Pass (1970) --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Warm Dust - Peace In Our Time (1971) --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ace - Five-A-Side (An Ace Album) (1974, Anchor) includes: How Long Sniffin' About Rock'n'Roll Runaway The Real Feeling 24 Hours Time Ain't Long Paul Carrack - Vocals and Keyboards Fran Byrne - Drums Tex Comer - Bass Bam King - Rhythm Guitar Phil Harris - Lead Guitar Produced by John Anthony --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ace - Time For Another (1975, Anchor) includes: I Think It's Gonna Last I'm A Man I Ain't Gonna Stand For This No More No Future In Your Eyes Tongue Tied Sail On My Brother Paul Carrack - Vocals and Keyboards Fran Byrne - Drums Tex Comer - Bass Bam King - Rhythm Guitar Phil Harris - Lead Guitar Produced by John Anthony --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ace - No Strings (1977, Anchor) includes: Found Out The Hard Way Why Did You Leave Me ?
